PROGRAMMING:
NEXT SHOW will be published on or about July 31 and will be available for about 1 year. I usually publish on Wednesdays or as soon as possible thereafter. You will hear music in several segments of top indie/DIY/underground songwriters and bands.

If you wonder what the Moon reference is in the playlist…. I had borrowed this idea from a radio show that I used to listen to in the 90’s, Hearts of Space. The program stills airs weekly, and it serves as a mild influence on my show. When the playlist was posted to their website, words were used to describe the weather of the area. For example, their latest ‘tranmission’ denotes that the San Francisco Bay Area weather is “SummerTerranean”.

RCB Novus Ordo is a separate podcast with 8 songs, one each from a brand new recording. I spin the music and give you some backstory of each.

**

Last week I reported on Facebook that my financial situation has worsened, to the point that I cannot currently get my rent paid. I’m still hopeful for one job opportunity that may come through, tho I have yet to hear when I might start. Meanwhile, I’ve gotten much busier seeking work, along with seeking resources among my friends and online aquaintances.
The most pressing matter is that the eviction process can start as soon as the end of next week. I have stared down the very threat of homelessness a few times before. Why is this happening? I’m not sure. I only know that finding work in and around Philadelphia has proven to be quite difficult, even after learning some new skills.

Again I still have hope that the aforementioned job will start before I have to move. I’m keeping my consciousness as clear as I am able, despite being frustrated and worrisome at timees about things. I can only hope that I will be working or generating some income very shortly.
Here’s the link to the Facebook note I posted:

5 YEARS AGO this week here’s a bit of what aired:
Artie Traum passed away the week prior and I gave some thoughts on his music as I spun a few of his tunes. On RCB Novus Ordo I debuted Lucky 13 (Marci Geller, of this songwriter trio, has since released an album), Bill Popp & The Tapes (haven’t heard from Bill in a while), and JD & The Straight Shot (that’s James Dolan’s kid). On RCB proper: I featured The Mad Tea Party’s “Found A Reason” album, which continues to air regularly these days. Scott Stein also in focus this week, plus interviews with John Taglieri and Kati Mac. Some of the artists included in this show: Kat Parsons, Kevin So, The Dollyrots, Kirsten Thien, Devon Sproule, and Anders Holst. More info here:
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/radiocrystalblue/message/2510

********
RCB Novus Ordo: Blues were the order of the day, and guitar-rock based blues at that. Tinsley Ellis provides a space-oriented number, David Egan sings about Mississippi with his Louisiana-tinged vocals, and Grand Marquis provide Prohibition and pre-war era sounds from the Midwest. Emiko has returned to the airwaves with a new EP.

RCB proper: The CD player magically restored itself from last week and I was able to get my show working again. The show was delivered late as I had already been threatened with the possibility of eviction, and this matter had distracted me to a great degree. Nevertheless I delivered a rather long show. In two segments I gave you music from artists who are featured in this year’s Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, 8/2-4 in Hillsdale, NY. Segment 1: The summer songs by Dar Williams and Ellis Paul are still in my head as I type this. Segment 2: Spun another new tune from California songwriter Stefani Rose. Segment 3: Pair of rockabilly tunes from The Mad Tea and Voodoo Swing, the latter just releasing their latest while they invade Europe. Delorentos, based in Ireland, are supporting someone named Bruce Springsteen in Kilkenny on 7/27. Dan Sheehan Conspiracy have a few shows ahead including the Hudson Music Festival in August. Dan himself is touring Ireland and England (I wonder if he crossed paths with Delorentos?). Segment 4 includes a bit of music from South America (Carla Hasesett) and France (David Garlitz). Segment 5 presents more featured artists at Falcon Ridge. Gathering Time are back on stage with a new band member. Spun two songs from Annie Wenz, one a wooden flute instrumental. Final segment: Dan May & Liz Longley performed at the Sellersville Theater, Sellersville PA on 7/25.

RCB Novus Ordo is a separate podcast with 8 songs, one each from a brand new recording. I spin the music and give you some backstory of each.

CD FOCUS: I continue to seek very good concept/compilations for future shows, with albums I can feature track-for-track. Do you know of one? Send it along!
**
CHART: Quarterly Airplay Chart is now available on the Chart tab of the website. Aztec Two Step has charted well as of late, and gathers its first #1 quarterly ranking. Those with the most songs aired in the quarter include Meghan Cary, Dana & Susan Robinson (biggest debut this quarter) and Greg Klyma. Full details https://radiocrystalblue.net/chart-page/
5 YEARS AGO: Artists who debuted on RCB Novus Ordo in 2008 this week include Swampdawamp (this generation’s Lynyrd Skynyrd), The Paper Raincoat (Amber Rubarth, Alex Wong). In the standard rotation among the many that were heard, I gave you Marwood (Benji Rogers’ music project which would soon give way to his organization PledgeMusic), Deborah Lombardi, Sirsy, 3 Kisses (who have just released a new album), The Dollyrots (on Joan Jett’s label), Finespun, Spiraling (Tom Brislin’s former band), and Angelo M. Featured that week were Cassandra Kubinski, and the late Artie Traum.
And now to the present…
********
RCB Novus Ordo: The aforementioned pick up from where they leave off with a few new members, a new home base of Anchorage AK and a new album. Debbie Chou, late of NYC’s The Barrens, released her first solo album. Underhill Rose from Asheville NC is the newest female folk trio in the style of Red Molly reaching nationwide. Kagero I remember seeing years ago in NYC, with their practically trademark world/rock sound, and I’m happy to have debuted their latest here.
RCB proper: What prompted the opening music this week was the announcement of Kim Shattuck from The Muffs joining the Pixies for their 17-city Europe tour, and perhaps beyond. She’ll still front The Muffs tho. (“Agony” was the first I learned of theirs, back in the days when Iwas busy collecting magazine CD compilations). I spun music from both bands. Thee Headcoats were a fine example of UK garage rock, and you can hear where The White Stripes got some of their ideas from. Segment 1: Paul Sachs & Edie Carey shared billing at NYC’s Rockwood Music Hall on 7/2. The Como Brothers recently debuted a new EP with a slight blues/pop feel, fitting in nicely with the sound of soul/rock artist M’Balia and blues veterans Bob Corritore & John Primer. Segment 2: Schwervon! just released a video for “Cyclone”, a song heard here. We hear again from Boy + Kite and Ryan David Orr who have new albums themselves. Segment 3: Molasses Creek’s ‘Fiddler” Dave Tweedie put words in an old instrumental “Mississippi Sawyer”. Natalia Zukerman & James McMurtry here, the latter from a CD recorded on James’ first tour of Europe. Both are participating in the Blissfest Music Festival on 7/14, Harbor Springs, MI. Sasha Papernik with a long summery tune closing this segment. Final segment includes another pairing of The YaYas and Honor Finnegan, completing a month-long tour.
