RCB Archive: September 18, 2005 show reintroduced

Hi everyone. Back we go in the time capsule to 2005.  I was finishing my tenure with a club called The C-Note, having run bi-monthly Monday evenings for 3 years.  That same month I had attended CBGB one last time to see veteran NYC punk and no wave  bands including the Dead Kennedys. From that show, and related stench, I felt a rededication to playing more music from indie and emerging artists, and much less of the major. I was finishing the 5th year of my radio program, which had begun to embrace podcast technology. The owner of the RSS would pull the plug within a year’s time, and I was able to latch onto Big Contact, who are the current RSS host.   I had a page of archival material at Lunarpages which is now no more.
During this particular edition, I recall having lost some battery power and had to use different external equipment…all when I did not own a mixer (that was from 2008 on). I still don’t know how I managed to do it but I did.  I had shared reviews online of shows I had booked with NYC Gigs, with whom I was employed by until 2011 upon my relocation.  I advertised the 169 Bar, which had since changed owners, and has become a Cajun-cuisine restaurant (how about crab mac for $8? Caviar for $35?). I also remember attending a show at Sidewalk Café the week prior and mentioning performers Lowry (backed by Sarah and Claire Bowman), and the mercurial Lach.  Also a show at The Bitter End involving touring trio Julie Loyd, Melineh Kurdian and Liz Clark.
I was also in the midst of my tenure at Live365, where I now had to report my airplay and also pay royalties for the first time.  I had built a following through that and also coloring the experience with more details in my YahooGroup (which still stands, btw: groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/radiocrystalblue)   Opening and closing music for a while were the pieces by TJ Rehmi, ‘chill’ music inspired by his roots in India.
I had styled every featured artists as “Gems”, a title I no longer use.  I also had a 2nd slightly lower title that allowed a smaller airplay feature called Future Stars. These pair of airplay segments would feed into my annual Airplay Vote. I wonder if I’ll resurrect that vote.
The forerunner of my now common RCB Novus Ordo was the New Music Sampler. I would simply air 4-8 songs in one segment, reciting bio of each artist alongside.  I used to do this during the big show itself.  Now it exists as its own show and properly so. One more reason why my shows often checked in at beyond 5 hours!
I cleaned up the audio the best as I could, considering the lower quality level. Because of my PC’s slow computing power, I could only broadcast in about 22 kbps, meaning you could hear the output at 11 kpbs which isn’t all that hot but at least there was a consistent signal. Most weeks, anyway.    Where possible, I have linked every songwriter and band to their most recent official website or place to be contacted.
Also among the highlights are the RCB debut of Jann Klose, Thea Gilmore, Sharon Goldman, and also music from the first recordings by The Mad Tea Party, Antje Duvekot and Amy Speace. There’s even Karen Jacobsen, known to millions as the Aussie voice of Siri.

PROGRAMMING
Next pair of podcasts will be published late into the week of April 19 2015
RCB Novus Ordo airs as a separate podcast to highlight songs from brand-new
releases in one sitting, along with bio of each artist. 6 new albums will be introduced this week.
*****
With several lives calling to me at once (job search,  radio, sports media) I haven’t taken the time to post in a few weeks. This may become the new trend, instead of weekly updates.
Still in old business:  RCB archives. I want to get to the shows I did live in 2005-2006, clean up the audio and republish at archive.org
Camera/camcorder: This I want to acquire for assistance in covering live events in Tacoma and beyond.
CLAMMR is not a show, but a feed of audiobites arranged much like Twitter.
This particular app is designed currently for the Apple universe; it will
add more portals soon.  You can join and add radiocblue to get my posts,
which are 18-second soundbites of every song I air.  You can refer to
publisher.clammr.com to get started. And you can get my feed, suitable for
RECAP of the last 3 pairs of shows:
3/29: Saw the debuts of longtime RCB faves Liz Longley and Amy Speace, and the debut of a new live Luke Dowler album. Had a sudden interest in airing some classic rock and punk, and we hear such music that includes saxophone in a few…plus 2 from The Ramones (the unwritten rule is that you can’t just air 1 Ramones tune at a time). Slaid Cleaves, Darlingside and Shinyribs shared billing at the time and we hear those artists in one segment together. Enjoying a 2nd airing were these artists: Band Of Lovers, The Brehms, Mystery Loves Company.
4/5: Debuts this week namely from these: Maynard & The Musties (NYC roots-rock, Eric Ambel production), Chris Daniels & The Kings (Colorado funk & rock, and who was a Skype interview subject in 2013), and Katie Garibaldi (last gave airplay to in May of 2011). In rotation and new: Clarence Bucaro.  2nd airings to these artists: Live Hart, Sam Morrow, Danielle Miraglia.  Nice segue in Segment 3 between Loretta Hagen, Glen Roethel and Sloan Wainwright (Sloan and Glen duet on his song “Vanishing Point”). Opened the show with Bettie Serveert, one of my all-time faves, and paired it with some great post-punk/electronic artists.
4/12 sees the debut of Fireships, a thoroughly modern rock/folk ensemble with a bunch of special guests, all based in NYC. Other debuts include British blues legend Ian Siegal, and Mia Theodoratus, who has a self-styled ‘electric harp’ type of sound.   Fred Gillen Jr. & Matt Turk have begun to tour again together, and I aired music from the duo album they released some years ago, plus one from Matt. Miss Tess & The Talkbacks in segment 1 also with a song by Ted Hawkins, a songwriter mainly active from the 1970s to 1990s, gained fame from busking in Venice Beach CA, and later fame on stage in Europe as opposed to the Americas.
2nd airing of music from Karina Nistal, Moot Davis, and James McMurtry (his first studio album in years). Opening segment started with NYC punk revival and a small exploration into its roots. DGeneration was the first concert I ever saw, at the Continental, NYC, 1990. I also saw NY Loose a few years later, recognizing them from a CMJ compilation I collected.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
I am accepting CDs and downloads for the rotation. CDs will be featured on  Radio Crystal Blue Novus Ordo, and eventually on  Music must have a 2014-15 release date. I’ll accept material not older than 6 months from the present date. Material older than that date, plus all downloads do not receive a feature; they’ll be considered for the rotation itself.  I’m also interested in featuring, great compilation or soundtrack albums\track-for-track, to help tell the story of those albums.
EPK (Electronic press kits) submissions can be sent via one of these companies.
Search for the words Radio Crystal Blue to find my pages there. If I like
the EPK, I will then ask for a CD.
CDs that fit in the above rules may be sent to
