PROGRAMMING:
NEXT SHOW will be published on or about July 3 and will be available for about 1 year. I usually publish on Wednesdays or as soon as possible thereafter. You will hear music in several segments of top indie/DIY/underground songwriters and bands.

RCB Novus Ordo is a separate podcast with 8 songs, one each from a brand new recording. I spin the music and give you some backstory of each.

**

Next week’s show is the last one for the quarter. After this show I’ll be crunching numbers and will produce the next quarterly airplay chart. I expect the chart to be unveiled by 7/3. The chart will list who have received the most airplay and exposure from my show over the past 3 months, with slight influence from the past 12 alongsides. I wonder if Vance Gilbert will lead again. He’s already RCB’s Artist of the Year for 2 consecutive years.
The current chart is available at https://radiocrystalblue.net/chart-page/

I continue to seek very good concept/compilations for future shows, with albums I can feature track-for-track. Do you know of one? Send it along!

I feel like my body clock and calendar are changing. My shows have appeared later in the week, and my own radio work is getting done later as well. I’m putting more emphasis on the matters out in the world, such as job hunting, There are days I feel very hopeful, and some days where I feel I have no control over my life. The days and senses change from time to time. Right now, typing this, I want to cling to every glimmer of hope, and continue to intend success in all areas of this life. Sometimes life really does intervene, such as when the derecho came here and I was moved to leave the house for a day. Or when the extierminators had to appear with 12 hours notice, and had to evacuate me for 5 hours, giving no notice as to the latter time frame. I’m sorry that the shows are late as of late, yet sometimes I just don’t have the control I wish I had to get things done.
5 YEARS AGO: Can it really have been that long ago that I debuted artists like Voxhaul Broadcast (who just broke up), Marina V, and Jenn Friedman (welcome back to the stage)? Here’s more from that week that were aired: Too Loons for Tea, Tori Sparks, Celia Chavez. Denise Barbarita. Telenovela Star, Soundpool, Red Molly, The Chapin Sisters, Arlan Feiles also among those receiving airplay. Featured airplay to SONiA & Disappear Fear, Lara Ewen, and Rachael Sage. More from that week at http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/radiocrystalblue/message/2491

********
RCB Novus Ordo: A folk ensemble with a long history of airplay here, Joy Kills Sorrow can be heard in this edition with new music. Late Cambrian continues to release new material, pushing the indie-pop envelope even further as a trio. Dan Miraldi presents some indie pop of his own, with more than a passing nod to early Dylan, both sonically and graphically.

RCB proper: Hearing of James Gandolfini’s death, I thought it would be time to salute his legacy with some film noir sounds and a bit of history, namely music inspired what was heard on The Sopranos. It’s a no-brainer to include a song by Alabama 3, who had contributed the title song to the series, and even namechecks Tony Soprano on the song “Reachin’ “. The sentiment was established earlier with a neo-classic pop tune from legendary singer Shirley Bassey along with The Propellorheads. In a throwback into time, we hear two artists produced by Lee Hazlewood. I can’t forget his duet with Nancy Sinatra. “Summer Wine” is an absolute classic. Duane Eddy’s tune here is from his most recent album in 2011. The guitar style is hauntingly beautiful, a bit of that “Twin Peaks” sound. Segment 1 includes artists who will be in Okemah OK next month for….what else?..the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival. Played on the red river/roads angle a bit, and also with Rebecca Loebe’s tune “Georgia” about how heaven is in the air and not on the ground. I think that’s how I heard it. Jimmy LaFave’s “Red River Shore” checks in at over 9 minutes. Segment 2: Suzie Brown & The Defibulators shared billing yesterday with The Defibulators. Both artists are soon to release new material. Morning River Band I had seen here in Philly, with some down-home folk rock songs, many of them about drinking. Segment 3: Spun another from The Dan Sheehan Conspiracy’s new album. Did you know they opened for Courtney Love at The Stone Pony in NJ this week? I need some backstage gossip! Segment 4: Ellis, and Jon Shain take part in the Festival For The Eno, the weekend of July 6-7 in Durham NC. Proceeds from the event to go to the Eno River Association, committed to the preservation of the Eno River basin and surrounding parkland. That same weekend in New Bedford MA is a folk festival which features more artists spun this week inside segment 4. I included Antje Duvekot’s “The Life Of A Princess” as it seems to recall a Child Ballad, notably the line about the Clyde River. And indeed I spun “Clyde Waters” from Anais Mitchell & Jefferson Hamer. An absolutely beautiful summer song follows from Ellis Paul. Final segment: Craig Bickhardt share stages with a few notables: Lizanne Knott (6/25 in Exton PA, and 6/27 in Bear DE), and Jamie Kent (July 12, Northampton MA).
