RCB Novus Ordo airs as a separate podcast to highlight songs from brand-new
releases in one sitting, along with bio of each artist.
For this show, I’m changing things somewhat. Read below..
*****
THE LATEST
Having learned just hours ago of the death of NYC media legend Joe Franklin, I took my own trip down memory lane, and recalled my one and only encounter with the man.  It’s such a story that I just can’t use up spai here to type. I encourage you to listen to this week’s podcast and hear what happened.   I recalled nostalgia not just for the music and clips JF prized (everything from the first half of the 20th century), but also for the radio and TV of the day.  It’s serves as a gentle escape.
To that end, in tribute, I aim to spin the earliest available music from each artist I plan to give airplay to. Just to change things up!  Sometimes the older songs have to come back out of the woodwork.

I also am recalling the project I had shelved for awhile, the idea of refurbishing a series of shows I did in 2005/2006 and placing them in the Internet Archive, suitable for framing.  I want to publish shows that sound much like what I used to do before my rededication to indie/underground music. Before 2006 I had some focus, but it was side-by-side with the majors.  I changed my tune after I had left CBGB  one final time  in October of that year.  You can look forward to hearing an oldie but goodie, for the first time since its original airing, when I was still on Live365.

RCB REWIND: The annotated version of the shows.
I had Tanya Donnely in mind early on. She, Robin Lane and Kris Delmhorst perform at The Parlor Room in Northampton MA on 2/8. It will be a benefit show for Songbird Sings, dedicated to healing trauma through songwriting.  If you listen carefully in segment 1, and I know you to be careful listeners, you likely spotted the ‘mountain’ theme in most of these songs.  SONiA of Disappear Fear, plus Sister Speak and Tori Roze appeared at last weekend’s NAMM convention in         Segment 2 got rather bluesy (as it often does). Shawn Amos and Magnus Berg were part of a Blind Raccoon label showcase during the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Altered Five Blues Band, recent RCB debutantes, won the title of Best Self-Produced Album.   Recently released music by The Devyl Nellys (hello again!) and Schwervon! are also must-listens.   I completed the first run-through of songs on the Grateful Dead 3-CD set, “Wake Up To Find Out”.  Segment 3:
Karyn Oliver, Meg Braun & Sharon Goldman shared equal billing at the Heights House Concert Series in Jersey City NJ on 1/25.  A bit of a travelogue unfolds in Segment 4 as well.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
I focus on CDs as opposed to downloads, though I make exceptions in the event of albums that are digital releases only. Music must have a 2014-15 release date. I’ll accept material not older than 6 months from the present date.   Any older material will not receive a featured debut; instead, they will be placed within the long rotation and selection process for future shows.
I’m also interested in featuring, great compilation or soundtrack albums\track-for-track, to help tell the story of those albums (see above).
EPK (Electronic press kits) submissions can be sent via one of these companies.
Search for the words Radio Crystal Blue to find my pages there. If I like the EPK, I will then ask for a CD.
CDs that fit in the above rules may be sent to

*****
THE LATEST
Firstly, I did get word from BigContact’s founder, Nat Guy, that the company
is looking beyond podcast publishing and to something different with the
extant FeedPlayer.   This is disappointing for me, as I’ve relied on the
company for years for podcasting. Now I’m shopping for a new RSS home. If
you know of a good, reliable and affordable service that publishes podcasts,
please let me know at once.  If and when the company moves in that new
direction, I’ll still be able to publish shows using http://www.archive.org
RCB REWIND:
Looking back on last week podcasts I continued the “Twin Peaks” theme in the
very beginning, along with a few choice songs with settings in winter.  In
focus for a few segments were artists performing at 2 different folk
festivals on the same weekend, in Florida! Brother Sun, Hardin Burns and
Gathering Time are some of the headliners in the South Florida Folk
Festival. Along with spinning another great new tune from Jonathan Byrd, I
recited a full essay of his re present day America, the content of which
reached Huffington Post.  Read here for details. I love Camela Widad’s tune
“Undefended Love” in the same segment.   Also brand new is the latest from
Mare Wakefield and Nomad Ovunc, along with another new album by Heather
Pierson and a piano-based version of “Junkies”.  On RCB Novus Ordo, you hear
2 songs from each artist, including Art Podell, whose folk roots started as
the boom of the genre hit America in the late 50s.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
I focus on CDs as opposed to downloads, though I make exceptions in the
event of albums that are digital releases only. Music must have been
released within the last 6 months of my next show’s publishing week (week of
1/11/15) All new albums debut on RCB Novus Ordo; on rare exception, some
debut on Radio Crystal Blue proper. I’m also interested in featuring, great
compilation or soundtrack albums track-for-track, to help tell the story of
those album (see above).
