THE LATEST
Firstly, I did get word from BigContact’s founder, Nat Guy, that the company
is looking beyond podcast publishing and to something different with the
extant FeedPlayer.   This is disappointing for me, as I’ve relied on the
company for years for podcasting. Now I’m shopping for a new RSS home. If
you know of a good, reliable and affordable service that publishes podcasts,
please let me know at once.  If and when the company moves in that new
direction, I’ll still be able to publish shows using http://www.archive.org
RCB REWIND:
Looking back on last week podcasts I continued the “Twin Peaks” theme in the
very beginning, along with a few choice songs with settings in winter.  In
focus for a few segments were artists performing at 2 different folk
festivals on the same weekend, in Florida! Brother Sun, Hardin Burns and
Gathering Time are some of the headliners in the South Florida Folk
Festival. Along with spinning another great new tune from Jonathan Byrd, I
recited a full essay of his re present day America, the content of which
reached Huffington Post.  Read here for details. I love Camela Widad’s tune
“Undefended Love” in the same segment.   Also brand new is the latest from
Mare Wakefield and Nomad Ovunc, along with another new album by Heather
Pierson and a piano-based version of “Junkies”.  On RCB Novus Ordo, you hear
2 songs from each artist, including Art Podell, whose folk roots started as
the boom of the genre hit America in the late 50s.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
I focus on CDs as opposed to downloads, though I make exceptions in the
event of albums that are digital releases only. Music must have been
released within the last 6 months of my next show’s publishing week (week of
1/11/15) All new albums debut on RCB Novus Ordo; on rare exception, some
debut on Radio Crystal Blue proper. I’m also interested in featuring, great
compilation or soundtrack albums track-for-track, to help tell the story of
those album (see above).
EPK (Electronic press kits) submissions can be sent via one of these
companies:
Search for the words Radio Crystal Blue to find my pages there. If I like
the EPK, I will then ask for a CD

THE LATEST
It’s been a minute, hasn’t it? Some of my other lives, including strong earthly reality, kept calling to me these past few weeks. Some of the issues lay low as the holiday trucks through. I have all my identity, finally, and now am eligible to work.  Purchased a few gifts for several folks, including at a Scandinavian shop, which connects to the local Lutheran university.
The email/domain transfer is now complete.  Please reach me at dan@radiocrystalblue.net    Do not contact me through Comcast anymore, as I have let go of that account.  It’s about time I took real ownership of my website! What remains to be done is ensure that all contacts with the old address get acquainted with the new one. I expect that process to continue a few more weeks.
Thanks to everyone that submitted music for the holiday edition. It was a bit tough to make the cut this year, but all is resolved. Sometimes I have to keep songs out of the long rotation for years before they get heard again.
RCB REWIND: The annotated version of the shows.
RCB Novus Ordo from 12/7: I began here with the latest album from PEI’s (Canada’s) own Catherine MacClellan, daughter of the late Gene MacClellan.  Deborah Henriksson from Sweden and a sense of pop/folk with a Celtic vibe, followed.
RCB proper began with a two-pronged obit: Bobby Keys, saxophonist for so many recordings over a 45 year period, passed away the prior week.  He appears in a long jam as part of the legendary George Harrison album “All Things Must Pass”.    Goodbye Blue Monday was a venue I visited just twice, but I remember the visits very well.  A place with kitsch from top to bottom. More kitsch on stage. A modest number of tables and chairs, small bar section. An openness with its booking, and musicians that built up a great community amongst each other.  As I mentioned on the air, with this being one of several notable closings in NYC, there will still be a need for the underground to express themselves, and hopefully to host a place to hold that need.  My hopes remain high as much as I was sad to read this news.   The song “Goodbye Blue Monday” is by antifolk artists The Feverfew, whom I understand have returned to live performance. Segment 1 includes new music by Ellis Paul, Patty Larkin and Larry Saklad. Segment 2, more of the same by James Hearne and Luke Potter.  Segment 3, Reverend TJ McGlinchey kicks this off. He and Dani Mari have founded a new band called Lovers League, which is soon to embark on a crowdfunding campaign.  Final segment was folky and thought-provoking, plus another track from the religion-themed “The Hibernian Mass” by Switchback.
