THE LATEST:
I’ve been busier with finding work and opportunity for same. In so doing, I’ve continued to keep my confidence rather high, regardless of the very idea that I might be evicted. The big news is that I did receive correspondence from the apartment owner’s lawyers, giving me 15 days to contest collections, followed by an official complaint.  The court date is September 26. I have not made plans to move and I do not know where I might live that would allow me to pursue work and this radio project, among other matters.  I also could use a really good landlord/tenant attorney.  The only bargaining chip I might have is if I have promise of work and the ability to pay back rent.  Otherwise I’m not sure what I’ll do.

Comcast was able to solve my network cable issues, whereas my connection was very slow to download and stream anything.   During the relative downtime, the only matter I couldn’t solve was getting last week’s podcast available on the Internet Archive.   Today, finally, I did successfully completed the upload and here’s where you can access it:

There are a number of options on the page and in the player to stream and download, as well as to embed the player on your site or blog. Shows in this FeedPlayer are archived for a year.

RCB REWIND:  A tradition started some years ago focused on this one song by The Velvet Underground, “The Gift”, which has its setting in mid-August.  From there I would typically, go into some sort of psychedelic or European segue. This year I catered to the Francophiles..with the infectious “Bongo Bong” by Manu Chao…and music from the great band Luna..who toured with VU in 1991. Luna’s tune “Bonnie & Clyde” was first popularized by Serge Gainsbourg & Brigitte Bardot. The version I spun is NOT the one from the Penthouse album but from Lunafied, an album of covers.  Segment 1: Debut of Amy Ray’s new album; she, of course, is one half of The Indigo Girls.  Another new tune from Red Molly’s outstanding album is heard, and a Neil Young cover by Miss Tess & The Talkbacks follows. Yes, kept to Americana for this segment. Segment 2 starts out with Americana at least, and another new song from Carrie Elkin & Danny Schmidt. The duo, along with The Steel Wheels & The Slambovian Circus Of Dreams were part of this past weekend’s Porcupine Mountains Music Festival in Ontonagon Michigan.  Butcher’s Blind, Jiggley Jones, & Jeanette Lynne shared billing at The Legendary Dobbs on legendary South Street here in Philly.  Star Anna debuts here also. She’s a Pacific Northwest songwriter blending rock and country. Segment 3: Matt Harlan, James & Curtis McMurtry & Rod Picott’s music have all come to you thanks to one Jenni Finlay of Austin TX.  The PR firm she runs under her name turned 8 years young this past week with the aforementioned names performing.  Curtis is James’s son and makes an auspicious debut. Too Slim & The Taildraggers shares billing with Zoe Muth at the Pigout in the Park Festival, Spokane WA.  Segment 4 returns Jon Regen to my airwaves. Also spun music of several artists that will appear in next month’s Connecticut Folk Festival in New Haven. Final segment includes the members of the touring No Fuss And Feathers Road Show (Carolann Solebello, Karyn Oliver, The YaYas). Jenee Halstead & Danielle Miraglia have a podcast of their own, and did a split-bill online-only concert last week.

THE LATEST:
It’s good to be back. It’s my way of saying I’m grateful. Maybe I’m putting myself in alternate dimensions by saying so. The idea is that I’m gaining a sense of life again, and almost never wavered in my vision.  These days, with job training for a possible job in September it seems that I can finally get back to where I once was and go even further beyond, not simply return.   I have to look ahead and be aligned with what’s ahead.
Back to the present.  As you can hear with the newest podcast, the sound’s improved and I found a better solution to how to keep it improved.
I haven’t bought any more time re the rent situation. It seems the only real source will come from the job if I pass the state exam next week.

RCB REWIND
RCB NOVUS ORDO for the big comeback included entries by 2 NYC pop bands you should know; Changing Modes, and The Larch. I’m thoroughly impressed by Changing Modes’ ever changing sound, getting into more new-wave rock territory than before.  The romantic, and certainly exotic sound of Roxanna’s long-awaited album is in a time and space all by itself, driven by her blessed vocals.   I also was taken by Leslie Evers’s tune “No Dew On The Avenue”, a gorgeous folk ballad centered on NYC and a longing to bridge one’s country roots there.
RCB PROPER: The feeling was one of redemption, survival, triumph, all things I experienced in my unplanned 5-week absence. So I picked out some songs that reflected my psyche, starting and ending with Dylan covers, one by one-time member of Luther Allison’s band, James Solberg.  Neil Young live and direct keeps the spirit strong. I mentioned a short piece I wrote upon the death of Robin Williams.  Me fear the reaper? Never! Segment 1 includes artists who were part of last week’s Rocky Mountain Folks Festival. Included is brand new from Carolyn Currie, who was part of a songwriter competition within the festival. Segment l2: A return to these airwaves by spiritually-oriented songwriter Robin Renee. New songs here too by The Late Saints and Revel 9. We hear these and other artists playing at Finnegan’s Wake all week here in Philly. It’s part of the Liberty  Music Festival.  Segment 3: Claudia Schmidt makes her RCB debut with album number 16. I’ve become a bigger fan of The Sidleys and their fine example of adult contemporary music.  Ditto for Liz Longley, who has amazing personnel in the studio that created her latest s/t effort. More new music, at long last from Nate Currin. And in Segment 4, some originals, at last, from veteran songwriter Matt Turk.
