Radio Crystal Blue charts announced; Trespass Music press release

This dual sided post announces after-the-fact the list of top artists heard on Radio Crystal Blue. I rank the top 100 artists by the raw score placing from each quarter, and tallying the totals. Each quarter represents a progressive score of airplay and exposure.
Vance Gilbert wins for the 2nd consecutive year, and joins Mark Erelli, fellow New England songwriter, as the only two-time titleists.

The chart page is where you can view the updated of not only my top 100, but also top albums of the year, and my updated list of all-time artists.

****

Trespass Music represents a number of artists you’ve heard on Radio Crystal Blue, including Loretta Hagen, Danielle Miraglia and Buskin & Batteau.  The latter artists I’ve actually withheld airplay from until I receive their newest material.  Meanwhile, Danielle has been heard all through 2012, and I occasionally give Loretta more exposure.   You may read the press release in full here, plus  a glowing intro to yours truly

NEXT SHOW will be published on or about November 28 and will be available
for about 1 year. Remember, even if you miss hearing a show the week I
record, you can always find it within the FeedPlayer’s archive of older
shows. Owing to schedule demands, I usually publish on Wednesdays or as soon
as possible thereafter. You will hear music in several segments of top
indie/DIY/underground songwriters and bands.
RCB Novus Ordo will also air separately. On this show I spin one song from
8 songs in one sitting and give you background info of each artist.

PROGRAMMING NOTE:
Each week through my January shows I’m airing tracks from The 1861 Project, a series that touches upon the Civil War experience. We’re up to Volume 2: From The Famine To The Front. This collection of original music recalls those families with Scottish and Irish ties who fought in the war. From the liner notes “Every singer, player and writer on this album has a strong connection to Ireland, by ancestry, birth, or just by heart”. More about this fascinating series at www.the1861project.com

Down to 3 more shows, and 2 more of RCB Novus Ordo. There is still room to have holiday music by artists you know or work with to be aired on the final show of the year, set for the week of 12/16. Anything appropo for the time of the year (doesn’t have to be Christmas) will be considered.

RCB REVIEW from this week’s shows:
RCB Novus Ordo: Brian Dolzani returns to my airwaves after a number of years with a tender ballad. The acclaimed Bern & The Brights are also heard on this program with polished acoustic pop. Edith Crash in this segment, checking in from France (tho I couldn’t possibly pronounce any titles). Freddy Hall, plus Flashbulb Fires are two acts I first met at The Grape Room earlier in the year.

RCB proper: Water and dreams, two subjects that come up in the first segment in most of the songs. Both Flo Anito, and Katie Collins & The Backroads Band perform in Washington DC’s Downtown Holiday Market during the holiday season. Segment 2: Good Co., with their unique brand of ‘electro swing’ can be heard here. Ki & The Arrowtooth Waltz is an older project Kevin McWha Steele. Segment 4 had a real reflective tone, with songs about the moon (Jean Mann, Mark Erelli), and the only way to close my final show for November, Craig Sonnenfeld’s “November’s Song”.

HOLIDAY music is now being accepted for airplay, both in digital and hard copy (preferred) for Radio Crystal Blue’s final show of the year, dated for the week of 12/16. Anything appropo for the time of the year (doesn’t have to be Christmas!!) from indie/underground/DIY/touring artists will be considered.

PhillyCAM: I’m happy to announce that I’m now a producer for this new public-access television network. PhillyCAM contains both live and on-demand programming by and for Philly residents and non-profits. The network contains has no restrictions against free speech tho certainly adheres to FCC guidelines about broadcast content. I have completed courses in both production and production management, and may soon enroll in a digital editing course to exercise more creative control on content I create. I’m excited to get started! I want to make a difference with this work on the local level, be it my own program or assisting on others’. I have a few ideas. How about you? www.phillycam.org

RCB REVIEW from this week’s shows:
RCB Novus Ordo: Happy to debut music from acclaimed songwriter Don Gallardo (and How Faw West). Susan Margolis, whom I recall seeing fronting NYC bands like Mouse and The Owl Motel, resurfaces with The Rosewood Girl. That Noise from California ride the leading edge of indie-pop. Thomas Patrick Maguire is a leading light in NYC’s antifolk scene.

RCB proper: As you might expect, with the annual Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA to you and me) conference in Kerhonkson NY this week, I did devote a fair amount of airplay to artists performing 2 of the major showcases there. Within, we hear newly released music from Bobtown, Jesse Terry, Anna Dagmar and Beaucoup Blue. Also… segment 1: Natalia Zukerman & Ellis are participating in Lamb’s Songwriter’s Retreat this weekend in Harbor Springs, MI. New music from Pi Jacobs in this segment. Segment 2: Justin Levinson & Peter Buzzelle participate in International Pop Overthrow 2012 in Boston. Segment 3: Oustanding songwriting from Megan Slankard and Fred Gillen Jr. (Fred’s song about Halloween and war veterans is very well done). Fred, along with Matt Turk, are at the ASK Gallery in Kingston NY on 11/16. Segment 4: 2 years after its release, got you some music by Lucy Wainwright Roche (daught of Loudon Wainwright III and Suzzy Roche), and is already preparing a 2013 release. It wouldn’t be November without Craig Sonnenfeld’s “November’s Song”, nor Mark Erelli or Jean Mann’s song about moons.
