NEXT SHOW will be published on or about November 28 and will be available
for about 1 year. Remember, even if you miss hearing a show the week I
record, you can always find it within the FeedPlayer’s archive of older
shows. Owing to schedule demands, I usually publish on Wednesdays or as soon
as possible thereafter. You will hear music in several segments of top
indie/DIY/underground songwriters and bands.
RCB Novus Ordo will also air separately. On this show I spin one song from
8 songs in one sitting and give you background info of each artist.

PROGRAMMING NOTE:
The 1861 Project, a series that touches upon the Civil War experience, returns with Volume 2: From The Famine To The Front. This collection of original music recalls those families with Scottish and Irish ties who fought in the war. From the liner notes “Every singer, player and writer on this album has a strong connection to Ireland, by ancestry, birth, or just by heart”. I’ll spin music from this album starting with the week of 11/25 and continue through my January shows. More about this fascinating series at www.the1861project.com

Four more shows to go before I hunker down and get the stats out to see who will be ranked in each of my charts. I have a good deal of HOLIDAY music that will be heard on the penultimate show for 2012, coming up the week of 12/16. I still have room for more. Anything appropo for the time of the year (doesn’t have to be Christmas!!) from indie/underground/DIY/touring artists will be considered.

COVERAGE: 3-4 times a month I go out to Philly-area gigs to do photos, some
video, and a write-up on my website afterward. I do this for free, tho at
some point in the future I might want to barter this work or be simply paid.

NEXT shows I’m covering:
11/23 (tonight!): @ M-Room, Philly: Grown Up Avenger Stuff, Lori Citro among 5
female-fronted bands in a GoGirlsMusic event, with proceeds to benefit
Philabundance and Wreaths Across America www.grownupavengerstuff.com
www.gogirlsmusic.com

11/25 Crown Point, Alternative rock from Portland OR, are in the midst of a national tour, and land at Circa 1212 on South Street www.crownpointband.com
I’m seeking at least one more show to cover in the first half of December.
**************
RCB REVIEW from this week’s shows:
RCB Novus Ordo: The Silver Snails present a most unique world music sound, filled with spacy electronics, mutiple languages, darkness and humor all at once. I had spun “Beatrice Russo” from their CD. To get a further idea of their sound you might want to try “Dancing With The Stars”, complete with Fellini-esque video. Irina is a dance-oriented songstress on the rise. Sarah Solovay returns to RCB airwaves with a song from her new EP. Veteran songwriter Richard Thorne also heard in this show.

RCB proper: Everyone knows the anti-war and anti-Thanksgiving tune “Alice’s Restaurant” by Arlo Guthrie. But did you know he rerecorded it some 30 years later? I spun that recording for you to open the show, followed by another RCB staple for the holiday, Lara Herscovitch’s “Tequila Over Turkey” (we’re not talking basting). Segment 1: Sirsy & Bound By Substance perform at The Bitter End in NYC on 11/30. Reintroduced a segment I used to do in the years before RCB Novus Ordo, where I would spin brand new music within the rotation instead of separately. Notable: The Nite Lights I first saw a months ago here in Philly, opening for Beaucoup Blue. Drew Schultz is drummer for The Four Tops and likewise keeps time for similar soul music acts that make appearance on his new album. Segment 2: Spun new tune from Social Hero, during a generally rocking period of songs. Segment 3: Segued between Tweed Funk’s funk and horns, and Remember September’s brand of guitars and horns. New Music Sampler #2 includes the latest from superstar Atlanta sister act von Grey. Also: Hat Check Girl (Peter Galway, Annie Gallup), and Chase Gassaway’s music for the soundtrack to indie film “Take Two”. Final segment: Listen for Teresa Storch’s “Holiday” which also takes place on Thanksgiving, along with Vance Gilbert, with more cold-weather memory. Aztec Two-Step’s tune to close the show, written in 1983, still rings true.

PhillyCAM: I’m happy to announce that I’m now a producer for this new public-access television network. PhillyCAM contains both live and on-demand programming by and for Philly residents and non-profits. The network contains has no restrictions against free speech tho certainly adheres to FCC guidelines about broadcast content. I have completed courses in both production and production management, and may soon enroll in a digital editing course to exercise more creative control on content I create. I’m excited to get started! I want to make a difference with this work on the local level, be it my own program or assisting on others’. I have a few ideas. How about you? www.phillycam.org

RCB REVIEW from this week’s shows:
RCB Novus Ordo: Happy to debut music from acclaimed songwriter Don Gallardo (and How Faw West). Susan Margolis, whom I recall seeing fronting NYC bands like Mouse and The Owl Motel, resurfaces with The Rosewood Girl. That Noise from California ride the leading edge of indie-pop. Thomas Patrick Maguire is a leading light in NYC’s antifolk scene.

RCB proper: As you might expect, with the annual Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA to you and me) conference in Kerhonkson NY this week, I did devote a fair amount of airplay to artists performing 2 of the major showcases there. Within, we hear newly released music from Bobtown, Jesse Terry, Anna Dagmar and Beaucoup Blue. Also… segment 1: Natalia Zukerman & Ellis are participating in Lamb’s Songwriter’s Retreat this weekend in Harbor Springs, MI. New music from Pi Jacobs in this segment. Segment 2: Justin Levinson & Peter Buzzelle participate in International Pop Overthrow 2012 in Boston. Segment 3: Oustanding songwriting from Megan Slankard and Fred Gillen Jr. (Fred’s song about Halloween and war veterans is very well done). Fred, along with Matt Turk, are at the ASK Gallery in Kingston NY on 11/16. Segment 4: 2 years after its release, got you some music by Lucy Wainwright Roche (daught of Loudon Wainwright III and Suzzy Roche), and is already preparing a 2013 release. It wouldn’t be November without Craig Sonnenfeld’s “November’s Song”, nor Mark Erelli or Jean Mann’s song about moons.

Camera is back, all shiny and new, and totally worth the $32 plus round-trip bus to get to NYC and back. RCB REVIEW:
RCB Novus Ordo: Kicking off this edition is music from Tora (Fisher), with a most unique
view on songwriting from the heart. We Are The Woods resurfaces with a slightly different lineup but continues blazing musical trails. Marci Geller is a Long Island NY artist with Vance Gilbert doing backing vocals on the song I spun “No Weather Down”

RCB proper: Even before programming this week’s show I knew that it would be full with music by artists who are participating at FAR-West this week…the Western states region of Folk Alliance International. Included within 2 segments worth is new music by Nels Andrews (in the same company of friends like AJ Roach, Raina Rose, et al.), and more new songs by Severin Browne and Chico Schwall. Severin’s tune “To The Light” has co-writing credit with veteran bassist/songwriter Freebo, also part of this special pair of segments. The K’s are breaking up, and for certain. I had followed their career since they began their initial radio campaign in 2005 and it was back in 2006 I had first given airplay to the first of their three albums. I will miss them. There was death and some elements of doom and gloom that came through the lyrics. Some of it happened in real life to them as well. That’s why I spun the songs I chose this week. From the standard segments: Tania & The Revolutionaries will release a new EP soon. Jeneen Terrana & Amateur Blonde share a bill 10/19 in NYC, part of the big CMJ experience. Hudson K & Avi Wisnia likewise with a CMJ show. Gave you some blues/rockabilly in my 2nd proper segment (Brother Joscephus, Vintage Blue, Voodoo Swing, Zac Mac Band). Patti DeRosa shares bills in the next month with Daphne Lee Martin & Beth DeSombre. I had built a whole segment around Rebecca Loebe, who also releases new material. She shares a bill on 10/20 wtih Curtis Becraft and Fred Gillen Jr, and later into November with Jesse Terry and Sarah Blacker (the latter two with new music). Final segment includes new music from Beaucoup Blue (who I saw earlier in October).Honor Finnegan and Anna Dagmar share billing on 11/3. This segment also has songs that feature danger, hope, longing for ease.
