PROGRAMMING:

for about 1 year. I usually publish on Wednesdays or as soon as possible
thereafter. You will hear music in several segments of top
indie/DIY/underground songwriters and bands.

RCB Novus Ordo is a separate podcast with 6-8 songs, one each from a brand new recording. I spin the music and give you the backstory of each artist.

RCB QUARTERLY AIRPLAY CHART is yet to be published. Once it is revealed, I will shout from the nearby digital rooftops & via social media. Current charts: www.radiocrystalblue.net/chart-page

I am soon to receive 2 compilation albums that I will feature in the forthcoming weeks. I’ll update in the next bit of news and on my website once everything is official.

Dusting off a Facebook group for RCB, on top of having my personal and radio page there. Not sure what purpose this will serve as I’d rather you reach my website first. There may be some sort of exclusive or breaking content to post here. 3 folks recently joined up, so there is some amount of traction. Open to options. Join up at https://www.facebook.com/groups/273953255983866/

Attending a showcase The Lengendary Dobbs on Saturday, April 11. Roger Silverberg and Larry Saklad, both with strong Philly roots, are part of a showcase at the 2nd floor. As with prior shows, I’ll certainly do some audio, maybe video, and some photos, plus a write-up afterward.

SUBMISSION GUIDLINES
I focus on CDs as opposed to downloads, though I make exceptions in the event of albums that are digital releases only. Music must have a 2014 release date or not released otherwise before July 2013. All new albums debut on RCB Novus Ordo; on rare exception, some debut on Radio Crystal Blue proper.
I’m also interested in featuring, great compilation or soundtrack albums track-for-track, to help tell the story of those albums.

RCB REWIND:
RCB Novus Ordo: The Heart Pills debut once again, with a Wild West concept this time around. Sibling groupThe Iveys’s acoustic pop tunes are a delight. Charlie Parr with Alan Sparhawk produce an long instrumental acoustic track that closes this show. Charlie’s approach to recording eschews studios. Has to be heard to be believed.

RCB proper: Eulogized Frankie Knucles to open the show, a man who is one of the progenitors of what we call house music, straight outta Chicago, close cousin to Detroit techno and the New York scene itself. England got in on the music early too. We must remember R&B and Motown folding into the morphing disco sounds along with 60’s soul, and then this transition to house. Acid house too, which I believe came out of England, specifically Manchester (or Madchester). Geoffrey Armes from the UK, now in Berlin, did session work for Frankie Knuckles and so I spun one of his more uptempo works from the Hemisphere album. We also hear a favorite from 808 State that is similar to DJ Frankie Knuckles’ crossover hit “The Whistle Song”. Onward: Segment 1 starts with Davey O, whose bassist Jeffrey Mikulski, heard throughout the album, passed away in March. Brand new music from Amy Ray, one half of The Indigo Girls. Amy explores something of an upfront country concept on her latest solo album. Flo Anito, Avi Wisnia, and Wes Tucker & The Skillets all take part in this year’s National Cherry Blossom Festival in DC. Segment 2: Common thread here were songs with horns as a main ingredient, er, instrument (Professor Louie, Remember September, Eilen Jewell, Shakeh). Segment 3: I featured artists who performed at the NERFA One Day Conference, Chatham NJ on 4/5. We hear brand new music from Scott Wolfson & Other Heroes, and another from the sterling album Shimmer, by Lindsay May. Segment 4 kept things light and folky, outside of the closing song by Switchback, with a live version of a song-in-progress.

RCB QUARTERLY AIRPLAY CHART for the first quarter of 2014 (I know, how many quarters do you think have elapsed already?), will be revealed toward the end of this week. In that chart, you and I will learn who have received the most aiprlay and exposure from the first shows of 2014. The chart page is an accurate snapshot of what I’m currently spinning. As I type this you can see the charts of the previous 4 quarters, the annual and the revamped all-time charts. Like the show itself, the charts are a real labor of love, and sometimes a lot of labor. But the love is there. See for yourself: http://www.radiocrystalblue.net/chart-page

RCB REWIND:
RCB Novus Ordo: I went back to the 4-artist, 2-song format this week, just for this week. Return to the airwaves for folk-rockers Greg Smith & The Broken English, along with guitar/cello group Shanna Underwood and Wanderlost. One of the tunes I spin of the latter is a Utah Phillips cover. Nine Times Blue brings some exciting alternative rock from Atlanta.

RCB proper: 2 special segments this past week with artists who were in Cape May for the big…er…event there. It’s not a conference, a festival or a gathering. Not in the title anyway. Awkward. In those segments we hear some more new music from The Halley DeVestern Band, Paige Allbritton, and Sharon Goldman, along with others I met at the event last year such as Kaydi Johnson and Craig Greenberg . Segment 1 has an Americana feel, starting with brand new songs from songwriters Lauren Adams and Tae Phoenix. I’m enjoying TIm Grimm’s new album with each repeat listen. Not many standard music performances for him lately; he narrates and does music for the stage play “The Grapes Of Wrath”. Segment 3 presents another song from the collaborative efforts of Heather Maloney & Darlingside. Also some new music from Laura Berman (who plays the Center for Spritual Living Circuit in the Northwest US) and songwriter/keyboardist Emiko. Rachael Sage & Marina V shared billing on March 21 in Scottsdale AZ. Segment 5 got back to the Americana/folk vibe. KC Clifford & Claudia Nygaard shared billing on 3/28 in Dallas. We also hear recently released music from Jean Mann and Brooks Williams among the notable.
