THE VISION I hold for my life and this program: http://wp.me/p1FKJJ-G6
—–
PROGRAMMING:
NEXT SHOW will be published on or about May 15 and will be available for about 1 year. You will hear music in several segments of top indie/DIY/underground songwriters and bands.

RCB Novus Ordo is a separate podcast with 6-8 songs, one each from a brand new recording. I spin the music and give you the backstory of each artist.
*****
A thank you to start off with, toward Dallyn Pavey and Dish Public Relations for alerting me to the In The Pocket compilation that you’ve heard in the last 5 podcasts. There’s another compilation that’s on my radar which I hope to receive in the next month.

THE LATEST: I’m wearing a nasal strip for the duration of typing this message.
Besides that, I’m barely hanging in there in terms of finances. I don’t have work yet or a proper source of income at this moment.
I’m watching some local groups do the sort of thing I want to do with this program. Yeah, it’s in my vision, linked up there but it’s worth repeating.
I’d like to do something more along the lines of video that would replicate RCB
I’d like to do more interviews, with more and better equipment.
I’d like to host events in Philly, likely with just 1 or 2 artists on a bill, with local or regional artists that you’ve heard on RCB.
I have other interests that are also pulling me in different directions, more along the sports side of things. The idea I have is still well under wraps but rather ambitious, and may feed my desire for travel, which I’ve barely done since my move here 3 years ago.
***
What I really like about this program I do is seeing the artists I’ve watched from when they were playing small stages and just starting their 1st or 2nd album with a fair amount of airplay and promotion elsewhere, and then, before you know, they’re among the major touring artists among indie and underground counterparts. And it keeps growing. I am thankful to have played my part in helping to shine those stars with RCB.
And I’m most gratified by the artists who don’t forget where they came from, and especially when they recognize Radio Crystal Blue as a persistent force for good…truth, justice and high-quality music.
***
I’m still hopeful to find work or some sources of income that will keep me affluent and pay my bills. I still have no plan B or C should eviction really take place.
Haven’t interviewed for work much this year, outside of the work I did in February and March. I’m seeking office and admin work in and around the Philly metro area.

RCB REWIND:
RCB Novus Ordo this week started with the rough-hewn kitchen-sink blues of Fellaheen. If I could adopt a band (or be adopted by), Fellaheen would be it. The Train Wreck Endings, representing Virginia resurface with a new album, as do Olio. Truckstop Honeymoon are a couple and duo with a throwback kind of sound, something along the lines of rockabilly. Mike West and his 9th Ward Pickin’ Parlor studio first came onto my radar when I had spun an older album of Shawn Mullins a few years ago. The studio was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, and has since been rebuilt in Lawrence KS.
RCB proper: Segment 1 contains an inspired ‘coffee’ theme (Heather Styka, Beth Wood, Ellis). Heather and Beth were part of the Wildflower! Music Festival in Richardson TX this past weekend. Got some blues for you in Segment 2 plus roots rock in focus thanks to The Miners and Australia’s finest in Mustered Courage. Heaps n Heaps are an alt rock band from Los Angeles, and they receive their RCB debut on this show. Final pair of songs from the In The Pocket Sessions album were aired. “Beat Up Guitar” is an absolute classic. Love the guitar solos at the end as well. Jim Boggia is the ideal vocalist for this song. Mind you, I never heard the original tune beforehand. Segment 3: Heather Pierson, Elaine Romanelli and Karyn Oliver took part in SERFA this past weekend in NC. Final segment contained thoughtful and relatively inspirational songs from songwriters> Lara Herscovitch, Beth DeSombre & Patti DeRosa (plus Kim Jennings) took part in a songwriters-in-the-round event at the Paradise Cafe on May 16th, Dedham MA.

SUBMISSION GUIDLINES
I focus on CDs as opposed to downloads, though I make exceptions in the event of albums that are digital releases only. Music must have a 2014 release date or not released otherwise before August 2013. All new albums debut on RCB Novus Ordo; on rare exception, some debut on Radio Crystal Blue proper.
I’m also interested in featuring, great compilation or soundtrack albums track-for-track, to help tell the story of those albums.

PROGRAMMING:
NEXT SHOW will be published on or about May 8 and will be available
for about 1 year. You will hear music in several segments of top
indie/DIY/underground songwriters and bands.
ALSO: I will air 2 more songs David Uoskkinen’s In The Pocket: Essential Songs Of Philadelphia “Sessions” album. This concept album contains 10 songs, all from artists with strong Philly ties. RCB Novus Ordo is a separate podcast with 6-8 songs, one each from a brand new recording. I spin the music and give you the backstory of each artist.

*****
NEW SPONSORSHIP: Moozikoo, a music production company based in Nashville, have come aboard to champion radio Crystal Blue. Moozikoo promotes indie music via their website and a studio presence called Moozikoo Live. They also sell band and concert material such as tshirts and posters. You can even hear a recent RCB Novus Ordo program. Have a look and listen at www.moozikoo.com
I am happy to mention your product or service on the air, and in emails and on my website. Email me for details.

STITCHER is a new presence on the Web with which to hear podcasts. You can download or use Stitcher to listen to Radio Crystal Blue on your iPod, iPhone or Android device. Main link:
http://www.stitcher.com/podcast/radio-crystal-blue

Fleshing out the vision: This past week I became enamored with the idea of 1-3 day travel to other cities to see a number of music events and meet people such as the bands and artists you’ve heard me spin music of for years. I have other plans besides music for traveling as well. Not being a driver, it’s not as easy a task as you might think, but there are enough buses and trains and even intercity travel that I can use on the cheap. I don’t have the capability right now to truly take my podcast on the road, but I am thinking strongly about taking such steps, based on its practicality, price, etc. One step to take is getting a laptop, which I am saving for. (Yes, I’m one of those that still uses a desktop).

RCB REWIND:
RCB Novus Ordo: Milwaukee’s finest in terms of blues & R&B, Tweed Funk, make a triumphant return to RCB airwaves with an album borrowing somewhat from the Memphis studio sound. Violet Machine is a promising indie rock trio in Brooklyn NY. I absolutely love their guitar tone..evocative of post-punk. Songwriter Andrew Tinker, a founding member of the Polyphonic Spree, releases his 2nd solo album, playing guitar and piano.

RCB proper: I gave Sweden’s The Plastic Pals airplay in Segment 2. Reading that they were opening for The Dream Syndicate on 3/2 I decided to get out some Steve Wynn’s solo material. The song I spun “Second Best” is exclusive to the Fever Pitch movie soundtrack. You know the movie, with the ending at Fenway Park? Music from Ivy, Marah, Tears For Fears an0d the Dropkick Murphys are the highlights on that album. Gave you 2 other bands with good pop-rock chops themselves, namely Golden Smog and Ryan Adams’ old outfit Whiskeytown. Into Segment 1: Brand new music from Owen Danoff, the enging “Never Been Kisses” ready for radio here and elsewhere. Also notable is new music from Ray Lambiase, whose debut a few weeks ago on RCB Novus Ordo was just outstanding. A few artists performing at the Montauk Music Festival were heard. Yes, the snippets of audio before and after Kevin McWha Steele’s “Stay With Her” are also his. Segment 2: Bryan Dunn & Pi Jacobs appeared on the same large showcase at Rockwood Music Hall on 5/1. Checking in from the UK, MJ Hibbett & The Validators are doing what are now rare gigs together and are more active this month. Recently MJ remarked that it’s the 10th anniversary of his song “Hey Hey 16K” considered the first Internet-based single. I chose to spin a tune from an earlier album of the band’s. RCB debut here from folk rock band The Currys, who shared billing with Flagship Romance at the Gamble Rogers Festival last week, in St. Augustine FL. Antigone Rising puts more country into their rock with a new EP (Garrison Starr co-writes the song I spun). Mary Gauthier featured in Segment 3, following a tender love song by Antje Duvekot. Chris Smither & Hurray For The Riff Raff (hurray indeed!) shared billing billing in last week’s New Orleans Jazz Festival. New album from Tae Phoenix (what a voice) kicks off segment 4.

SUBMISSION GUIDLINES
