PROGRAMMING:
NEXT SHOW will be published on or about September 18 and will be available for about 1 year. I usually publish on Wednesdays or as soon as possible thereafter. You will hear music in several segments of top indie/DIY/underground songwriters and bands.
RCB Novus Ordo is a separate podcast with 6 songs, one each from a brand new recording. I spin the music and give you some backstory of each.
**
Outside of radio for a moment: I’m still dealing with heavy financial issues and am not sure I’ll have the most important of bills, the rent, paid this month. However there are some very positive changes afoot: I just landed some temporary work and have also begun to field some job interviews. Pending pre-employment matters, I might start in a week. All of this news built up on Friday. I’m practically mesmerized at the speed of it all! Top priority is getting all bills paid, and securing work in whatever form. My personal life will get a lot busier and that means a bit less time for radio work. But this is what I’ve asked for to get my life in order. These events could not have come at a more important time. Donations, of course, are certainly welcome. Your donations helped keep me off the streets before.
I’m not exactly in a celebratory mood. Moreover I am focused on getting the rest of the bills paid, and hoping to save money quickly. Until I find myself in more solid financial footing, I’m staying off the grid for any matters involving the music industry. The podcasts will continue on a weekly basis, time permitting.

********

The annotated notes of this week’s shows:
RCB Novus Ordo: Carolann Solebello’s fourth solo album is released this month, with her brand of urban-folk reintroduced with a newer level of maturity in the songs. Von Shakes is the other NYC/Dublin based band I saw last month at The Grape Room here in Philadelphia, a edgy alternative pop-rock outfit. DP (Daniel Perez) presents indie hip-hop in a style comparable to Fun Lovin’ Criminals.
RCB proper: I retold my story about 9/11 and my gratefulness to be alive to tell the tale. Chris Pan’s 2006 album “All A Dream” is about his take on 9/11 in 3 different moods. Chris has a public-access program on Manhattan Neighborhood Network expanding on some of these ideals. Segment 1: Debut airplay for Matt The Electrician, who also appears on Rebecca Loebe’s recent album. Matt shared billing with Nels Andrews at Don Quixote’s in Felton CA on 9/11, then with Shinyribs (Ken Russell of The Gourds) at Palm’s Playhouse, Winters CA on 9/12. Segment 2 includes more new music from Australian bluegrass outfit Mustered Courage and Russian-American songwriter Marina V. Segment 3: Ellis and Roy Schneider are headline showcase participants at the South West Regional Folk Alliance Conference, held in Austin, 9/26-29. I kept to a rough roots and blues influence with this segment, ending in inspiration (Rani Arbo, Lisa Biales). Segment 4: Terry Rivel’s tune “Angel In Darkness” sounds an awful lot like Buck Owens’ “Streets Of Bakersfield” (could be just my ears). Three songs followed with foreign voices (one each Polish, Chilean, French).

RCB Quarterly Airplay Chart was published on Tuesday. Vance Gilbert continues to rank high on the quarterly charts. Brother Sun, on the strength of their new album “Some Part Of The Truth” debuts at #4. The Steel Wheels, who have just sent me their latest, are at #17. The chart is the best snapshot I can provide outside of playlists and audio files for you to see what I’ve been spinning the most as of late. Full details at
https://radiocrystalblue.net/chart-page/

IDEALISTIC SPORT is my newest podcast, fully unrelated to music. If you hunger for out-of-the-box opinion, a unique take on sport stats, even insightful predictions, this new show is for you. Content will focus mainly on minor and individual sports instead of teams for the most part. I’m recording the charter program today (Friday) and will have that available in a new FeedPlayer URL. As you know, FeedPlayers are positively viral. Access the shows at www.bigcontact.com/idealisticsport along with overlighting blog posts, which will be the final word of all predictions and summaries, at www.idealisticstats.wordpress.com

If you are a musician that would like to submit to this program for use as intro and outro segment, or to fill in the spaces between segments, just send a message.

Got a message from a Philly-oriented filmmaker who plans to do a unique documentary about musician Kenn Kweder. Billed at once as a madman, a genius, even “The Mayor Of South Street”, his story goes back some 40 years. He is still actively performing in the Philly area. I imagine that he had a big underground following even in the 70s; ideally I would have spun his music even in those halcyon days, perhaps alongside folks like Dave Rave from Canada. Director John Hutelmeyer has begun a crowdfunding campaign; already the film has received 12% funding toward its goal. You can do your part by watching the trailer for the campaign and sending some $ their way at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-kenn-kweder-documentary

RCB rewind:
RCB Novus Ordo notably debuted Reverend Freakchild this week. Liner notes suggests some rather tall tales from start to finish, even suggesting the man passed away 8 years ago. The tales really are that tall. He is still among us, and his take on traditional tunes are new and fresh. Stephen Lee Rich (@OldYodeler on Twitter) returns with a new album. Lubbock, TX’s Jenni Dale Lord makes a great Americana debut here as well.
RCB proper:Segment #1: from rockabilly to modern folk and back we went, including new tunes from Sassparilla out of the Pacific Northwest, who have their own stamp on roots music. Segment #2: Spun another from South Korea electronic rock band Love X Stereo, alongside more synth from my favorite song by Blue Sour. Segment #3: Speaking of Brother Sun, I love their take on U2’s “In the Name Of Love”. Folks, you know I don’t care for covers all that much except to understand where an artist is coming from. But, if it must be done, it should be finely obscured so as to gently hint to the original, and to make it further original. The trio do it very well on their new album. Chris Riffle and Brian Dolzani are taking part in this weekend’s HartFolk Festival in West Hartford, CT. Songs relevant to home were predominant in this segment (Virginia in particular, courtesy of Andrew McKnight and Rani Arbo). Segment 4: Songs took a rather utopian and altruistic tone, notably from Noel Paul Stookey and a new song from Craig Sonnenfeld.
