releases in one sitting, along with bio of each artist.
*****
NEW INSTRUMENT to add to the panel will be a Shure microphone.  The book on the old mic I’ve been using since circa 2003 has finally closed.   What mic have I been using all these years? It’s a Sony MiniDisc mic, based for a technology that’s all but a white elephant nowadays. I was using this technology frequently in the early years of RCB, and eventually discovered that handling CDs through a portable CD player was the way to go.   The electret condensor mic from Sony remained faithful.  Over the last few months the quality has faded (so has the Behringer mixer I have, tho another story for another post). I kept getting strange sounds which I attributed to the AA battery inside.  Then I shifted blame onto the ever-fraying wire.   After conversation, and lengthy assistance on the most recent podcasts from DJ Flowerdove, the writing soon appeared on the wall: It’s high time to buy a new microphone.  I am going to Guitar Center for the new instrument, very likely a Shure SM48S-LC. The other candidates is an SM48 cardioid dynamic mic.
RECAP
From 2/8/15:  Highlights on RCB Novus Ordo include the latest from Fred Gillen Jr, whom I consider the hardest working man in folk.   Evan Button, all of 16, reminds me of the time I first saw and heard Brett Dennen, someone quiet, thoughtful and wise beyond his years in songwriting. For the week during Valentine’s Day, I returned to the magnificent Art Of Love: Music Of Machaut album, music and words inspired by the surviving works of 14th century composer Guilliame de Machaut.   On RCB proper: Segment one is mainly country, collecting places such as North Carolina (Jonathan Byrd) and Wisconsin (Peter Mulvey).  Marchan Noelle debuts within the rotation here with a solo acoustic tune.  Electronic rock band Animato gets another airing.  Two ladies from the mid-Atlantic states, Jo Wymer and Rachel Schain, are heard after many moons. Jo’s song “Rearview Mirror” is brand new.   Segment 3 of 3 this week includes an original by Heather Pierson, a song among covers on her latest.
From 2/15/15:  RCB Novus Ordo, historically is the last show to feature the old Sony mic.   A good way to see the mic off as well: Eilen Jewell released a double album, live at The Narrows in Fall River MA from a year ago. Gibrish presents a fine mix of folk from Sweden.  The Levins resurface with a new inspiring album.   On RCB proper, 2 segments presented music from artists that were being showcased during the Folk Alliance conference last week.  Jim Photoglo and Curtis McMurtry are my faves in the 2nd of those segments. Catherine MacLellan became a Juno nominee. New song from Professor Louie & The Crowmatix is on the forthcoming album.   Thanks again must go to DJ Flowerdove, who provide invaluable assistance in getting some of the more technical aspects of the show done.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
I focus on CDs as opposed to downloads, though I make exceptions in the event of albums that are digital releases only. Music must have a 2014-15 release date. I’ll accept material not older than 6 months from the present date.   Any older material will not receive a featured debut; instead, they will be placed within the long rotation and selection process for future shows.
I’m also interested in featuring, great compilation or soundtrack albums\track-for-track, to help tell the story of those albums.
EPK (Electronic press kits) submissions can be sent via one of these companies.
