PROGRAMMING:
NEXT SHOW will be published on or about May 1 and will be available
for about 1 year. I usually publish on Wednesdays or as soon as
possible thereafter. You will hear music in several segments of top
indie/DIY/underground songwriters and bands.
RCB Novus Ordo is a separate podcast with 10 songs, one each
from a brand new recording. I spin the music and give you some backstory of
each.
*****************************
So I got the new mouse, an new CD player, and life continues to evolve, the vibrations to be raised. Had some minor health issues that seem to persist this week, and I’m taking life somewhat easier while pursuing work. I’m still averaging one job interview per week. I haven’t attended live events in a month but I’ll make an effort to do so before 4/30. I already have 2 events to attend in May, and I’ll give you more info during my next podcast.
Sending RCB love to those promoting the good word of my show these past 7 days:
I plan to feature an album in a new CD Focus segment, in which case I’ll be spinning the contents, track-for-track. I do this for outstanding compilation and concept albums. In this new case, the album is the final one by the artist. If you have (or know of) a great album I should feature in this manner, send a message.
RCB rewind:
RCB proper: Reflecting on the passing of Richie Havens, I spun not only a tune from his final album (released in 2008) but also a tune from two of his contemporaries, the sainted Dave Van Ronk (traditional tune from an album containing rarities), and Vance Gilbert, who opened for Richie a number of times. Segment 1: Yes it was time to get holy in this segment but also somewhat secular, bridging earth to heaven; such was the theme here. Ashley McBryde is back on my radar. Her song “Holy Water” starts off with part of “Amazing Grace” and then turns into something much more contemporary. Elisa Peimer recently performed her first show with band in about a year. Segment 2: Alycea & The X Isles return to my spotlight as well. They, and Jean Mann are among many performing at the Tuscon Folk Festival on May 4. Segment 3: Peter Galperin returns with his first album in 2 years. I was positively amused with Chip Taylor & The New Ukranians and the song “Be Kind” which is spun here. I hear there’s a new album in the works by Chip alongsides. Carsie Blanton also has a new EP which you can hear me debut on this podcast. Segment 4: Very reflective in nature, starting with the aforementioned Jean Mann, plus Dan & Faith, both with songs about dreams. Ellis is back with a 2-CD set, from a live concert recorded at the White Bear Unitaritan Universalist Church in Mahtomedi MN. It’s arranged so you hear enough of the witty stage banter beforehand. Closing up is Andrew McKnight & Beyond Borders, with a song about a Montana town from their live album, recorded at the Franklin Parks Arts Center, Purcelville, VA.
