THE VISION:

My personal and radio vision

—–
PROGRAMMING:
NEXT SHOW will be published on or about February 6 and will be available
for about 1 year. I usually publish on Wednesdays or as soon as possible
thereafter. You will hear music in several segments of top
indie/DIY/underground songwriters and bands.

RCB Novus Ordo is a separate podcast with 8 songs, one each from a brand new
recording. I spin the music and give you the backstory of each artist

*****
I’m actually revising the posted version of my vision so that it’s current
with my
present line of thinking. That thought process has changed somewhat but the
core goals remain mostly the same.

I made some more progress with the work situation this week, and I intend
for it to lead to a job shortly. Financially I’m still hanging by a few
threads but some things must get done too…the usual things like food
shopping, new haircut, shoes, all those things.  I’m thankful to have at
least the means to accomplish all this.

RCB REWIND:  I love The Black Tongued Bells, a band that has some of the
elements of the Rolling Stones and 60’s blues and soul. It’s one trick, but
a darn good one. Paige Allbritton debuts here, a songwriter here in Philly
with a unique expression between high vocals and low-key electric guitar.
Risingside made their online radio debut with this program. Actor Tim Grimm
(Reasonable Doubts, Chicago, Code, Detroit 187) is also an award-winning
Americana songwriter, who has just released a new album.  Shane Cooley is a
new resident of Austin TX, and releases an acoustic duo album with Virginia
songwriter Paulo Franco.

RCB proper:  With the reporting of the deaths of Pete Seeger and TR Ritchie,
I had to scramble to change my programming at the last minute.  I dug some
albums that songwriter James Durst had sent me.  James truly carries the
torch for what Pete stood for. He is also a member of Work o’ The Weavers,
which faithfully cover the old Weavers tunes.  We hear some of this music in
the beginning.  Si Kahn, a songwriter and union worker in long standing,
also carries that same torch. I believe that Fred Gillen Jr does likewise,
and we hear something from the collective he’s part of called Hope Machine,
all Hudson Valley songwriters and musicians.  TR Ritchie had several albums
under his belt, and I only knew of him via his contributions to Cosy
Sheridan’s albums.  I attempted to find some inspirational and mainly folk
tunes during this show. Segment 2 gives us traditional tunes via Stephen Lee
Rich and Spuyten Duyvil. Segment 3 includes brand new music from Jamie Kent
& The Options.  Segment 4 has music from James Houlahan (borrowing from
Yeats),  Nerissa & Katryna Nields along with Dar Williams shared billing on
1/30 at Infinity Hall in Norfolk CT.  Dar is heard with backing vox on the
Nields’ “The Creek’s Gonna Rise”.  Final segment includes Beth DeSombre’s
“Resolution”, an ideal song to begin the year with.

*****
This past week, I took some bolder steps in getting part of my vision out to the world. You know, the vision I posted above. It’s also searchable at my website if you type ‘vision’ in the search area. The different aspects of my life that I want to grow into and live aren’t going anyway. I still feel there are opportunities to do better, and to be more of the person I really want to be. Part of the vision is growing the radio presence to more people. With every tweet and post, I aim to reach new eyes and ears to my place online, and also to bring the sounds of true indie/underground artists to more listeners. Sports is another area that continues to unfold. Last week I submitted an essay to a leading baseball website for consideration. It’s stat-laden but also very original as I created my own formula and provide concrete examples despite its experimental status. Someone will put it to good use! There’s other areas of sport I want to make manifest, and I believe it means connecting with the right person at the right time and always being available.
The work situation remains unchanged. I am seeking better-fitting jobs and leads that will lead to the work I want to do.

Some news from some companies that I support here for a change. You know I champion the premier coffee alternative, Teeccino. They’ve just released a dandelion series of flavors. The root is applied to the standard flavors for Teeccino including their Dark Roast, Mocha and Vanilla Nut (my favorite so far). No gluten, no barley and no caffeine to mess up your innards (I speak from experience!). More at http://teeccino.com/category/73/Barley-Free-Dandelion-Flavors.html

The Alternate Root online publication, creator of the alternate roots genre, have been on public-access cable in a number of networks across the US. Last week they began their commercial TV network debut on WBIN, which directly reaches most of the New England states, and is also available on some of the satellite and cable networks. Alternate Root TV provides an hour’s worth of live performance and dialogue from the top names in the genre. Some of the names which have been heard on RCB include Patty Larkin, and The Howlin Brothers. Details here: http://thealternateroot.com/watch-alternate-root-tv

RCB REWIND:
RCB Novus Ordo: Laura Berman’s music, much of a pop alternative with an inspirational feel to it, returns to my airwaves. I’ve become a fan of Luke Dowler, who has his own spin on alternative and roots.
RCB proper: This edition had a good deal of editing in it, owing to technical issues. My CD player is just about toast now. I need a new one to keep airing any music. Meanwhile I did give a good show, starting in segment 1 with the closing track of The Kennedys’ album 2012 “Closer Than You Know”. “Winter Lies” bookends the album along with “Winter”. Brand new music from Molasses Creek also. This ensemble calls Ocracoke Island, NC, just off the mainland, their home. Segment 2 focused a bit on artists that performed in this year’s prime Light Of Day Foundation showcase events, all around Asbury Park NJ. Disappear Fear makes another appearance here. Followed this up with some blues, and a rather interesting cowboy/hiphop hybrid of music from the gentlman known as DP. Segment 3: South Florida Folk Festival in Walton FL was in focus here, as I gave you music from artists participating in the various showcases along with those in the songwriting competition. That competition strongly resembles the one that the Kerrville Folk Festival organizes. Glad to hear that Steve Chizmadia was one of the winners! Gathering Time were one of the headline acts. I aired a traditional tune from their new album. There was also the thread of travel here (Carolann Solebello, Marci Geller, Annie Wenz). I like Lou Dominguez’s song about a central NJ record store and his memories. Final segment: Red Molly and Antje Duvekot shared several billings in the past week.
